Local information for Diss, Norfolk, IP22 4XW

Situated in the beautiful Waveney Valley and established around one of the deepest natural inland lakes in the country, Diss is a charming location. With a market hosted at the town’s centre for well over 500 years, it has every right to call itself a market town. And it is certainly picturesque.

The mere covering over 6 acres, once believed to be the crater of an extinct volcano is the perfect place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon stroll or perhaps a picnic on a summer’s afternoon. Take a walk around Diss Park taking in views of the mere, or quietly stroll around Frenze Beck Nature reserve, a wetland paradise for many species of bird and other wildlife. For those who really want to stretch their legs, Boudica’s Way runs for 40 miles from Diss to the medieval city of Norwich, the capital of Norfolk. For cyclists, there are two bike routes to be explored starting from Diss and taking in the countryside and quaint villages and towns in the area. For those of you who like to keep active, the Diss Swim and Fitness Centre houses a 25 metre pool alongside gym classes, sauna, steam room and spa is nearby.

Or perhaps enjoy a stroll through the town centre, embarking on a journey through its old courtyards and winding streets. Discover centuries of history with the town boasting excellent examples of Tudor, Georgian and Edwardian architecture. The heart of the town is overlooked by the Stunning Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin. Sitting slightly above the town, the church can be seen from miles around and has stood on its current site since1290. Venture to the church in the summer months and you may catch one of the music concerts held there. For an insightful view of the town’s history, visit the museum, packed full of artefacts and photographs which map the story of the town’s history and its people.

For shopaholics, Diss is the perfect haven to indulge. The layout of the shops is as interesting as the shops themselves. Arranged around four courtyards: Cobbs, Norfolk House, Hales and Will, a wonderful array of shops are waiting to be browsed, including a tempting sweet shop, vibrant auction houses, and of course, the historic market. Diss is also home to a number of supermarkets for day to day convenience. The City of Norwich and the town of Ipswich are both under 25 miles away where you will find an even greater choice including many big brand names.

To further the day to day convenience which makes this area so wonderful are the excellent local facilities which this community benefits from. There are three local surgeries and ample nurseries in the area alongside a number of primary and secondary schools, making this development perfect for families.

Diss is now part of the Cittaslow or “slow city” project, meaning it has undertaken a “pledge” to embark upon a continuous process of self-improvement for the town. Cittaslow is a growing international network of towns where quality of life is important. What better place to create a home.

The combination of history, modern day amenities, the town’s values and these wonderful homes, means that Diss is the perfect location to enjoy your new Persimmon home.
