Local information for Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG31 7FE

Originating in the 6th century, the ancient market town of Grantham is renowned as the birthplace of Lady Margaret Thatcher, Britain's first woman Prime Minister, as well as Sir Isaac Newton, one of the foremost scientific intellects of all time, who attended school here.

But perhaps the importance of Grantham was influenced in the 12th century when it was decieded that the route of the Great North Road should pass through the town.  Consequently, Grantham rapidly became a major coaching centre. Today, residents breathe a sigh of relief as the traffic on the busy A1 conveniently by-passes the town.

It also provides the perfect base from which to discover the romance of south west Lincolnshire, beautiful rolling countryside unfolds historical castles, picture postcard villages and delightful market towns.

Commuters from Hunter's Gate will enjoy easy access to the A1 for travelling north or south, as well as the A52 route east or west to Nottingham, the closest major city. What's more, Grantham station, conveniently located on the East Coast Main Line, provides fast, frequent services to London, with the centre of the capital reached within seventy five minutes.
