Situated on the east bank of the River Great Ouse, just south of The Wash, Kings Lynn is a town steeped in history. In the 14th century the town ranked as the third port of England and in 1538 became royal property under Henry VIII - the names of Kings Lynn and Lynn Regis, latterley, reflecting the status.
Sandringham House, the Norfolk residence of the Royal Family, lies just 6 miles, north east of Kings Lynn and known to be the birthplace of one of the town`s most famous sons, George Vancouver, an officer in the Royal Navy, Captain Vancouver in his ship `Discovery` charted the Pacific coast of the modern day Canadian province of British Columbia, the American states of Alaska, Washington and Oregon, along with the south-west coast of Australia. Another seafaring hero was Lord Horatio Nelson, born just a few miles away at Burnham Thorpe on the north Norfolk coast.
Throughout the centuries, the medieval market town of Kings Lynn has always prospered. To this present day, Kings Lynn remains a thriving port, a modern bustling town and a busy commercial centre.
A complete regeneration scheme has been carried out in the town centre creating a modern architectural appearance and shopping experience offering everything from specialist shops to fashionable high street stores, as well as a variety of lively bistros, restaurants and pubs - many located in pleasant riverside settings.
The ever popular market, held three days a week, continues to attract tourists and locals from far and near.
