Brand Spotlight: 2 LGBTQIA+ owned homeware businesses you should know about

Looking for some stylish new décor for your home? This Pride Month we’re putting a spotlight on Studio Limbo and Adam Ceramic, two small LGBTQIA+ owned homeware brands.

Studio Limbo

Delivering stunning eco-conscious candles and ceramics, Studio Limbo was founded in 2020 and has gone from strength to strength since then, now being stocked by a number of suppliers including Urban Outfitters, as well as through its own website.

Founder Winnie Matthews says “Studio Limbo was created whilst being in a period of ‘limbo’ during the first lockdown. I initially started making candles to keep myself busy and soon found it very therapeutic.  My friends then convinced me to start selling via Instagram, and here we are!

“I make and sell candles, but also host candle making/painting workshops in and around London. Since starting the business I have worked with some incredible brands, and have encountered some amazing opportunities.”

On the importance of showcasing LGBTQIA+ and other minority owned brands, Winnie adds “I’m a queer candle maker living in southwest London with my partner. I personally have never struggled with my sexuality in terms of business, however I am aware of the difficulties that other queer artists/makers meet. Highlighting these brands and their owners is super important for visibility, especially during Pride Month.”

To browse Studio Limbo’s stunning range of products (we love their refillable eco pots), visit their website or check them out on Instagram.

Adam Ceramic

If you’re looking for a truly unique gift, or a beautiful new ceramic piece to add to your own home, look no further than Adam Ceramic. Adam, who was a finalist on season 4 of The Great Pottery Throwdown, discovered his love of pottery and ceramic during a difficult time in his life, and now sells a range of beautiful and intricate products through his website.

While he was creative from a young age and studied a degree in Contemporary Applied Arts in 2003, ceramics became a huge part of Adam’s life after he suffered extreme injuries after being run over by a car in 2003. During the many months he spent recovering in a wheelchair, working with clay was a “lifesaver” for Adam – in his own words, “it would absorb all of my feelings and give me a real sense of achievement”.

Hundreds of hours spent honing his skills and finding his style have led have resulted in the beautiful works you can see on his website.

Today, Adam’s ceramics are inspired by oceans, coral and magical worlds, largely based on where he lives out and proud in Brighton with his partner Dan and his pug Egg where they both create craft for the home and garden.
