Leisure

Leiston and its surrounding area offer’s plenty of visitor attractions. Places of interest include Leiston Film Theatre, Easton Farm Park, Orford Castle, Saxtead Green Post Mill, the Long Shop Museum, Bentwaters Cold War Museum, Minsmere Nature Reserve, Orford Ness National Nature Reserve, and Helingham Hall Gardens. Go back in time and visit the 14th century remains of Leiston Abbey, located in open fields just north-west of the town. These impressive ruins not only exhibit parts of the abbey church, but also the fairly extensive remains of the buildings around the cloister.

Leiston offers a wealth of other leisure facilities including Leiston Leisure Centre which is undergoing a £3.5 million refurbishment and will bring state-of-the-art leisure facilities to the area including two new dance studios, spacious gym with modern equipment and a new health suite. The Meare is a great place for outdoor activities giving you the chance to hire a range of boats including dinghies, larger rowing boats, punts, sailing boats, canoes and kayaks.

Education

There is a great choice of both state and independent primary and secondary schools in Leiston and many are conveniently located within walking distance of Buckton Place. For younger children, Leiston Primary School is close by and Alde Valley Academy caters for 11 - 16 year-olds. There’s also Summerhill School just 1.1 miles from Buckton Place.

Transport

Leiston has great transport links including Saxmundham train station just 3.4 miles away, which has regular services to Woodbridge, Ipswich and Lowestoft.

Direct rail services run from Saxmundham station to Lowestoft and Ipswich with connections to London Liverpool Street and Norwich. There are a range of bus services from St Margaret's Crescent including bus 64 that runs to Aldeburgh and Ipswich.
