Earls Gate is located on the southern edge of the historic coastal town of Dunbar. A sought-after town with spectacular sea views and two charming harbours, it’s a truly desirable place to live. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the sea, yet with a wealth of local amenities, Earls Gate really does enjoy the best of both worlds.

The town is celebrated for its shopping with many independent retailers offering a wide range of goods, many produced and sourced locally, from quality food products such as speciality chocolates, fresh just-off-the-boat fish, smoked salmon, and organic fresh fruit and vegetables, to tasteful home furnishings, garden furniture, china and glassware, and sports accessories.

Dunbar also boasts a bicycle shop, galleries, gift shops, picture framing, delicatessen, home hardware, pet foods, pharmacies, antiques, jewellers, bakeries and cafés. For your weekly shop, Earls Gate is conveniently close to an Asda superstore which is just a short walk away.

So much to do in the local area for all the family

Dunbar is a walker’s paradise with sandy beaches on your doorstep and beautiful coastal and countryside footpaths to explore at your leisure. There’s so much to do close to hand: John Muir Country Park boasts a children’s adventure play area, BBQ spots and events all year round; East Links is a farm-themed activity park children of all ages will love; and for the daring amongst you, Foxlake Adventures is Scotland’s first cable wakeboarding park along with the UK’s only ropes course constructed over water.
As well as its accolade of being the sunniest and driest town in Scotland, Dunbar is easy to reach by rail and road, has a fantastic array of local amenities and things to do for all the family, combined with an abundance of historic coastal charm. No wonder it’s such a popular place to call home.

Over 60 and in need of a new home?

The Scottish Government has announced an extension to the Help to Buy (Scotland) scheme to cover the needs of over 60s who need to move but can’t afford to.

So if you’re over 60 and can demonstrate a ‘housing need to move’, then this could be the perfect scheme for you. There’s a set of criteria you’ll need to be aware of:

  • You must be aged 60 or over
  • You must maximise your stake by using your full house sale proceeds (minus reasonable expenses). If you can raise the purchase price of the property through the sale of your existing home and savings you won’t be eligible.

You’ll need to demonstrate a housing need to move which should include at least one of the following:

  • Under occupation – living in property which is too large for you and you need to downsize.
  • Your property is no longer suitable to meet your needs – you can no longer manage the stairs etc.
  • Support – you may need to move closer to family or friends that can provide care and support.
  • Joint applications may be eligible (without the requirement for a mortgage) where one of the applicants is aged 60 or over.

For further information contact your nearest Persimmon development in Scotland or visit the updated Scottish Government Help to Buy website.
