There’s a wide variety of shops, cafes and facilities and a supermarket in the town. The Clifton Moor, Monks Cross and Vanguard retail parks are also only a short drive away. Further afield is York itself, which boasts a plethora of shops, bars and restaurants.
There are three theatres within the town, as well as a leisure centre with a large swimming pool. There is also plenty of entertainment and activity options at the nearby York retail parks, where you can work up a sweat at the gym, enjoy a trip to the cinema, or even enjoy a round of 10-pin bowling. Being within easy access of York affords you plenty of options such as theatre, museums, live music and much more.
There’s a selection of nurseries, primary schools and secondary schools in the area, including the Ofsted-rated 'Good' Lady Lumley's School and Sixth Form.
Pickering can be easily accessed by car from the A64 and then the A169/A170. There are plenty of bus routes, including the Coastliner service running from Leeds to Scarborough every 30 minutes. The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a heritage steam railway which also runs from Pickering to Grosmont.
There are plenty of medical practices in the town including a range of doctor surgeries, dentists, opticians and vets. The nearest hospital is the Malton, Norton & District Hospital.
