Redditch boasts an interesting historic past, dating back as far as the 12th Century when Cistercian Monks are said to have built an Abbey at Bordesley in the Valley of the River Arrow. Over the next three centuries this hamlet of new families which had settled near the abbey became known as ‘La Redditch’.
During 1538 much of the community living near the abbey moved to drier land and it’s on this drier plateau that the town centre stands today.
The history of Redditch is closely linked to needlemaking, for which it became renowned. By the 19th century it led the field in needle production as well as other metal based trades such as fish hook and spring manufacture - a fascinating and sometimes grisly story which is told in depth at the unique Forge Needle Museum.
History lovers will delight in the rich cultural tapestry surrounding the town, including Bordesley Abbey – the remains of the former Cistercian Abbey which was later used as a Royal Swannery and now.

Shopping opportunities are abundant in
Redditch, including the Kingfisher Shopping
Centre - home to over 150 stores and a
multi-screen cinema complex. There are also
excellent out of town shopping facilities
offering residents and visitors a wide choice
of groceries, electrical goods, kitchen
appliances, computers/technology, discount
clothing and DIY.
For those who enjoy the great outdoors the
Arrow Valley Country Park will provide hours of
recreational activity. Over 900 acres in size, the
park has become one of Redditch's greatest
green assets. It extends over 2.5 miles from
Bordesley Abbey in the north to Washford Mill
in the south and incorporates a 29 acre man
made lake with excellent fishing facilities –
for bream, roach and carp.
Within a 10 mile radius there are numerous schools including Saint Bede's Catholic Middle School, Tenacres First School, Birchensale Middle School, St Lukes C of E first school, Trinity High School and Sixth Form and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic First School.
Due to its geographical location, Redditch is ideally situated to take advantage of the
surrounding areas, with the M42 just a short drive away and easy access to such towns as Bromsgrove and Evesham by dual carriageway and A-roads.
There are regular rail services from Redditch to Birmingham New Street and the rest of the UK rail network beyond, while Birmingham International Airport is less than 30 minutes away.
Alexandra Hospital is located approximately 4.7 miles south of the development.
