Historic Durham

Bowburn has Durham on its doorstep. It's a fabulous small-sized city that's big on things to do. For shopping you've got the whole range, from out of town retail parks and superstores, to high street brands in the new shopping malls, to markets and independent shops and cafes in the old heart of the city. Add the stunning cathedral, the castle and the river that plays host to an annual regatta and you'll always find something to do there. For real big city shopping you can easily get to Newcastle by train from Durham.

Exploring the area

The countryside around Durham is lovely to explore too. The rolling hills of the Durham Dales lead you up to the North Pennines - the moorland trails are fabulous for walking and the open country roads are great for cycling. There are pretty villages to discover and plenty of places to stop off for lunch.

Road and rail

Bowburn is just off the A1(M), the northeast's leading motorway route. It heads up to Newcastle upon Tyne via Chester le street and Gateshead. To the south it connects you with Darlington and of course much further. Durham has a mainline train station for national destinations. The journey to Newcastle by train takes just 20 minutes - it takes the stress out of a daily commute - and from Newcastle there's an airport link
