Why buy a new home in Maidstone?

Maidstone is the county town of Kent, situated just 32 miles south-east of London. The picturesque River Medway meanders its way through the centre of the town, linking it with Rochester and the Thames Estuary to the north. Today the town is a cosmopolitan hub which celebrates its history whilst embracing modern living.

Shop ‘til you drop

Maidstone’s attractive high street boasts a number of shops and from here you can easily access Fremlin Walk, a modern shopping centre where you’ll find a huge choice of well-known high street brands. The Mall Chequers is another spacious indoor shopping centre and, on the other side of the River Medway, you can find St Peter's Wharf, known for its clothes, crafts and homeware shops. There’s also a thriving local market which takes place each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays at Lockmeadow where you can buy delicious fresh produce and grab yourself a bargain. For even more choice The McArthur Glen designer outlet in Ashford and Bluewater Shopping Centre are also easily accessible with their impressive choice of shops and restaurants.

You’ll be well connected…

Located in the heart of Kent, and halfway between London and Dover, Maidstone is in a fantastic situation and a popular place to live for commuters. The town is just 2 miles from the M20 which connects south to Ashford and Folkestone and north-west to London, with the M25 approximately 18 miles away. The A229 provides speedy routes and will connect you with the M2 leading onwards to Canterbury and Margate.

Maidstone is well served by trains and has two railway stations: Maidstone East for London/Ashford services and Maidstone West for Gatwick/Strood services. The Channel Tunnel is easily accessed by train directly from Ashford. For destinations further afield, London City, Gatwick and Heathrow airports have regular flights to and from other UK airports as well as a wide range of international destinations.

Lots to do in the local area

Living in Maidstone means you’ll be able to enjoy relaxing boat trips along the peaceful River Medway as well as the more energetic pastimes of walking, cycling or a spot of golf in the award-winning Mote Park. Maidstone Leisure Centre is a must-visit for keep fit fans boasting an impressive five swimming pools, a two storey state-of-the-art fitness suite, sports hall and children’s soft play area.

There’s a lot to do in the evening too as Hazlitt Arts Centre has a programme of events including live music, comedy and drama. You can also catch the latest film release at the Odeon cinema or meet friends at the Hollywood Bowl or the variety of nightclubs, pubs and restaurants dotted around Maidstone – there’s something to suit all tastes.

Education for all

As well as being an ideal location for commuters, Maidstone is also very family friendly with 23 primary schools and 15 secondary schools. The town is home to some particularly sought-after schools including Maidstone Grammar School and Oakwood Park Grammar School (boys only) and Maidstone Grammar School for Girls and Invicta Grammar School (girls only). Higher and further educational courses can be found at Mid Kent College.

Maidstone is surrounded by areas of outstanding natural beauty so maybe just getting out and about in the North Downs, enjoying the fantastic countryside and quaint sleepy villages is your thing. Or maybe high octane adventures such as watersports, go-karting or quad biking… Whatever it is, Maidstone is a fantastic place to buy a new home because what you have in abundance is choice.
