Local bus services connect all the towns and villages along the Swansea Valley, with the average journey time into Swansea of around an hour. The nearest train station is at Neath, just under 11 miles away. From there, the journey time to Swansea is just over 15 minutes.
There are two local comprehensive schools to choose from; Ysgol Maesydderwen and Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera. A third comprehensive school, Ysgol Grnradd Gymraeg Pontardawe, is 6 miles away. Primary schools in the town include Ysgol Bro Tawe and Ysgol Golwg y Cwm, while neighbouring village primary schools include; Blaendulais Primary School, Ysgol y Cribarth, Tairgwaith Primary School, and Cwmlynfell C P School.
