Choirs on song with community cash

Choirs from across Cumbria will come together for a festival of song next spring with help from Persimmon Homes Lancashire.

Cumbria Rural Choirs (CRC) has been awarded £1,000 from the Community Champions fund to help with the costs of its ‘Come and Sing’ day next May.

Diane Finch, sales director for Persimmon Lancashire, said: “Groups like CRC play an important role in providing social and cultural opportunities for people across a wide rural area.”

“We are pleased to help with funding for the Singing Together project and look forward to hearing more about how CRC are engaging with more young singers across Cumbria.”

CRC is the largest amateur choir in Cumbria, enabling singers to perform large scale choral works. The organisation recognises the need to attract younger participants and overcome the perception that ‘choral singing’ is ‘for older folk’.

The inter-generational, widening participation project, ‘Singing Together ‘, will particularly focus on providing musical opportunities for children, young people and families. In addition to the Come an Sing event, led by professional conductor Andrew Padmore, a Music Making weekend is planned for September 2021.
