Househunters race for homes in Somerset village

Househunters keen to make the most of a rare opportunity to move to an attractive Somerset village will have to act fast, the builder has warned.

Persimmon Homes is building just 26 homes at its new Priory Green development on Hayne Walk in, Chilton Polden, half of which will be ‘affordable’ homes allocated by the local authority.

Carly Spear, sales director at Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said that competition will be fierce for the 13 properties released onto the open market.

“The property market is extremely vibrant at the moment,” said Carly. “We’re seeing huge interest in all of developments, which can be attributed to all sorts of things including pent up demand from the original lockdown, people revaluating what their homes mean to them and the Stamp Duty holiday.

“Priory Green is an unusually small development for us in an enviable village location. There is absolutely no doubt that interest and demand for these properties is going to be sky-high.”

The homes are not due to be released for sale until February next year – but people can register their interest now.

Carly said: “By registering an interest now people will be kept up-to-date with the progress of the development and will be sent an alert when the first homes are released for sale. It’s a clever way of getting ahead of the game.”

Less than seven miles north east of Bridgwater, Priory Green will be made up of two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The site is 0.75 hectares in size and the work also includes public open space, new access and drainage infrastructure. A total of £185,460 will be raised for the local authority through the Community Infrastructure Levy. For more information, or to register your interest, visit or call 01278 554 364.
