Strollers and sports fans making use of Pelton Fell War Memorial Park can enjoy their activities knowing that lifesaving kit is on hand in case of emergency.
Pelton Fell Bowling Club has raised the cash needed to buy and install a defibrillator which will be available to anyone in the park in an emergency. A spokesperson for the bowling club committee which led the way with fundraising and secured £2,000 of the £2,219 need to buy and install the NHS-recommended machine, said: “We owe Persimmon Homes Durham a huge thanks for helping us achieve our target through its Community Champions scheme. “The donations we have received carried us to our target far sooner than we could have hoped and now the defibrillator will be available to anyone in need in the park. The park is an excellent and well-used community asset with tennis courts, play area and bowling green as well as being the base for the Chester-le-Street Riverside band. It is important that a defibrillator is available, and we are looking forward to getting the cabinet installed.”
Persimmon Homes Durham made two donations to the appeal from its Community Champions scheme. Each month the Bowburn-based builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 31 operating areas, meaning up to £64,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £768,000 a year.
Christine Cooper, sales director said: “We are delighted to have been able to support such a community-minded scheme and hopefully it will give the park users a little extra peace of mind that the defibrillator is there in case of an emergency. As a company we have enjoyed huge success over the last few years, and it’s great to be able to give something back to the communities in which we are working. Our Community Champions campaign is still running, and we’d welcome more applications via our website, www.persimmonhomes.com/charity. If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
