Cornwall & West Devon apprentice building himself a bright future as he is shortlisted for award
30 January 2023

Bricklaying apprentice David Mears has been shortlisted as a finalist for ‘Building Plymouth Apprentice of the Year Award 2023’.
Over the last seven years David has overcome many personal challenges and is now firmly focused on building himself a bright future within the construction industry.
When David joined the Cornwall and West Devon region in January 2022 he had very limited understanding of bricklaying, but within a little over 12 months, he has shown dedication and commitment that his skills have developed ‘exponentially’ and he is now a valued member of the team that he works with on site.
He was nominated for the award by his apprentice manager in the regional business, Andy Wallis.
Regional Apprentice Manager, Andy Wallis, said:
“As well as being an excellent apprentice in the workplace, David has supported me at Career Events to help develop our pipeline of new entrants to our fantastic industry.
“Although this sort of event was outside of David’s comfort zone, he was more than happy to support and in turn develop himself in this area.”
“He represented our business brilliantly and was able to offer some great first-hand experiences to potential future apprentices.
“He is a first-class ambassador for Persimmon.”
The award ceremony is being held on 7th February 2023.
