Orchard Croft Location map

With a market hosted at the town’s centre for well over 500 years, Diss has every right to call itself a market town. And it’s certainly picturesque. Living in Diss means you’ll be in the heart of the beautiful Waveney Valley and be able to enjoy walks around the Mere, one of the deepest natural inland lakes in the country. Covering over 6 acres, the Mere was once believed to be the crater of an extinct volcano, and is the perfect place to enjoy a Sunday afternoon stroll or maybe a picnic on a summer’s day.

New to the area?

If you would like to know more about Diss, please call 01379 770 683 and we will be happy to tell you more.

Shopping

With the city of Norwich and the town of Ipswich being so close (both under 25 miles away), they’re the perfect place to enjoy a spot of shopping, where you’ll find a great choice of independent and big brand names. A little closer to home, the shops in Diss are arranged around four courtyards: Cobbs, Norfolk House, Hales and Will – all boasting a wonderful array of shops and, of course, the historic market. The town is also home to a number of supermarkets, including a large Morrisons for day-to-day convenience.

Leisure

There’s the Fit Club, which is open seven days a week and boasts large, separate cardio and resistance machine spaces. You can also sweat it out in the sauna room or get a tan on the sun beds. To enjoy more traditional sports, you can visit the Heywood Sports and Leisure club to enjoy a round of tennis or squash, and even play football on the full 5-a-side Astroturf pitch. There are also plenty of opportunities to stretch your legs at any point along the 36 mile route along the Boudicca Way, a beautiful route between Diss and Norwich. There are also plenty of cycle routes throughout the South Norfolk Countryside.

Education

There are many schools within the area. The Oaks Nursery is an Ofsted-ranked ‘Outstanding’ nursery, where the excellent teaching ensures children leave confident and ready for primary school. There are many primary school options too, including Roydon Primary school and Palgrave CEVC, both rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted. Diss High School is also a sixth form, where attending students can receive up to a college-level education.

Transport

Further to the excellent local facilities, Norwich and Ipswich are almost equidistant from Diss, making it perfectly placed for travelling by either road or rail. On the main Norwich to London railway line, Diss train station is just a short walk away, meaning you can be in London in less than an hour and a half.

There’s also a good local bus service and, for travels further afield, Stansted Airport can be reached in an hour and a half by car.

Approximate travel distance by car to:

  • Diss train station: 1 mile
  • Norwich: 23.3 miles
  • Ipswich: 24.6 miles
  • Lowestoft: 33.8 miles
  • Stansted Airport: 71.7 miles

Health

There are many health facilities within the local area such as the Lawns Medical Practice for your general practitioner needs. There’s also the Diss Dental Health Centre and the nearest hospital is Hartismere Hospital in Eye.
