By the latter half of the 19th century Llanelli became such a significant regional producer of tin it was christened ‘Tinopolis’. After its £60 million regeneration, Llanelli’s town centre is a diverse showcase of arts, entertainment, leisure and retail. St Elli shopping centre, the 100-year-old market and East Gate’s tasty cocktail of varied restaurants lend the traditional town a contemporary edge.
If you enjoy sport you’re in the right place as there’s a variety of sports teams in Llanelli. The town’s rugby union teams are the Scarlets and Llanelli RFC. and there is also a strong junior rugby team. Ysgol Y Strade. The town also has a special needs school Ysgol Heol Goffa for
children with disabilities and a private school, St Michael’s. For older
children there is a sixth form at Ysgol Gyfun y Strade and St Michael’s. The
town also has a college, Coleg Sir Gar.
There are fantastic transport links; Llanelli is linked to the M4 via the A4138, giving access to South Wales. There are regular bus services that run into and around the town. Llanelli has its own train station which has regular routes to Cardiff, as well as having a twice daily service to London Paddington. Llanelli also links to the four local train stations, Kidwelly, Burry Port, Llangennect and Bynea. Llanelli is connected to the National cycle network.
Prince Phillip Hospital is a 10-minute drive away. Llanelli has many
doctors' surgeries, all within a 10-minute drive.
