Persimmon Homes

If you’re seeking Scottish coastal charm, great transport links, a bustling high street and a real community feel, turn your attention to Arbroath in Angus. 17 miles northeast of Dundee, the charming fishing town is best known for its pretty harbour, long sandy beaches and stunning sandstone cliffs – as well as Arbroath Smokies, mouthwatering locally fished smoked haddock. The town is well-equipped for modern living, with a wide range of amenities in its bustling centre and around the harbour. The train station provides links to Aberdeen and Edinburgh, there’s a great selection of schools for all ages and enough attractions to keep you occupied all through the summer holidays. All in all, Abroath is a great choice for buyers seeking all the practicalities and conveniences of modern life in a truly beautiful setting.

For a traditional fishing town Arbroath boasts a pretty impressive centre, with a wide range of high street and independent stores, banks, pubs and eateries lining the high street and surrounding roads. There are also several pubs, restaurants and cafes to be found down by the harbour. For more choice, make the half-hour drive (or take a direct train) to Dundee, where you’ll find the Overgate Shopping Centre with its selection of popular brands. A 38-minute train from Arbroath leads you to Perth, another great destination for shops and restaurants.

Enjoy glorious surroundings

One of the biggest perks of living on the Scottish coast is the stunning scenery on your doorstep. Golden beaches, rolling hills and glistening seascapes are all within easy reach of Abroath, with the nearby Arbroath Cliffs and Seaton Cliffs Nature Reserve offering views and great walking spots. For a more challenging terrain, the breathtaking peaks of the Cairngorms can be reached in around an hour and a half.

Around the town you’ll find nature trails, the open space of Victoria Park stretching along the coast at the foot of the town and the majestic remains of Arbroath Abbey. For fun days indoors you could explore the Signal Tower Museum or Pleasureland Amusement Park, while sports and fitness enthusiasts will find a range of activities and facilities at the Arbroath Sports Centre.

Great for families

When children aren’t out exploring, there’s a good range of schools they can attend. Abroath is home to several nurseries, 6 primary schools, two secondary schools (Arbroath High School and Arbroath Academy), and Dundee and Angus college for older students.

Handy transport links

Easy access to the A92 means Arbroath is in a great location for commuting both north and south, with Dundee an easy half-hour drive west, Perth a further half-hour beyond that and Aberdeen just over an hour north.

The town’s train station is located close to the centre and provides speedy links to Aberdeen and Edinburgh. And for travels further afield, Dundee airport is less than 20 miles away, with the major airports of Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow also within easy reach.
