Persimmon Homes

Bodmin is a rural market town exactly halfway between Padstow and Fowey, Cornwall’s north and south coast holiday hot spots. It’s on the main route through the county making it a great base for your new home, whether for work or pleasure. Bodmin is a focal point for the local villages and hamlets which gives it a good atmosphere, especially at the Farmers’ Market, which is held on the third Saturday of each month.

Living here

You’ll enjoy having the local shops in the centre, as well as a choice of supermarkets around the edge of the town. The Farmers’ Market celebrates the best of Cornwall's local producers. There’s a Community Hospital and an excellent leisure centre, which was recently refurbished. It’s got Cornwall’s only indoor Tennis Centre as well as outside courts, football and hockey pitches, and badminton and squash courts. The 25m swimming pool has a flume and learner pool so it’s a great place to take younger children.

Getting around

The A30 is the key road route all the way from Exeter in Devon to Penzance in the very far west of the county, and the Bodmin Bypass is the section that serves the town. It’s really easy to get out and about for day trips and for work. Bodmin Parkway Station is on the Great Western Railway Line connecting Cornwall’s main towns with Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, and London. It’s just outside the town, on the A38, and there are regular bus services if you don’t drive.

Going to school

You’ve got a choice of four primary schools in Bodmin; Beacon Academy, St Petroc’s, Berrycoome and St Mary’s. Bodmin College provides secondary education, and for further education, Callywith College, with links to Truro College & Penwith College, is based in the town.

Enjoying yourself

The Leisure Centre will keep you fit and active but for really stretching your legs, you’ve got all the open space of Bodmin Moor on hand. Lanhydrock isn’t just a great National Trust property to visit nearby, there’s a golf course there too. Last but not least, Bodmin is on the Camel Trail, Cornwall’s top cycling route, an 18-mile trail that takes you up to the stunning north coast at Padstow. The south coast is just as gorgeous and a day out at Fowey, Polperro or Looe is a must.
