Persimmon Homes

Bridgwater is one of Somerset’s larger towns, in a great location halfway between Bristol and Exeter. With recent investment in its infrastructure and amenities, and the boost to the economy of the new Hinkley Point power station, it’s still growing, making it an exciting place for a new home. A large town needs the balance of the great outdoors and Bridgwater has definitely got it, with the beautiful Quantock Hills on one side and the unique Somerset Levels on the other.

Living here

Bridgwater has a busy town centre, as well as the Angel Place and Eastover indoor shopping centres and a large out of town retail area too. It’s quite a spread-out town centre but easy to get around, with a lovely area around the Riverside and West Quay, Bridgwater’s original docks.

Getting around

The M5 runs to the east of Bridgwater. It’s the main route into the South West and an important transport route from the Midlands connecting Bristol, Taunton, and Exeter. The town’s train station is on the Great Western Railway line. The fast train to London, via Reading, takes about 2 hours. Bristol Airport is an easy drive as it’s to the south of Bristol. It takes about 40 minutes and is just over 25 miles away. Berry’s Coaches is the local Somerset firm running regular services up to London Hammersmith.

Festival fun

The Bridgwater Carnival is the largest illuminated procession in Europe. It might not be Rio but it draws thousands of people into the town to celebrate, and it’s the grand finale of the carnival tour of Somerset. It takes place during the first weekend of November and is great entertainment for all the family. It’s an event not to be missed.

The Quantocks and the Levels

Two of Somerset’s best landscapes are on your doorstep. The Quantocks Hills are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the west of the town. There are miles of trails, including the famous Coleridge Way, and the hills dip down to the sea near Kilve where there’s an amazing pebble beach. The Somerset Levels are to the east, stretching between Bridgwater and Glastonbury. This is an historic area of wetlands, ancient drovers’ routes, and home to thousands of migrating birds.
