Persimmon Homes

Enjoying a fantastic central location within commuting distance of five cities, yet surrounded by beautiful countryside, there’s plenty to like about the Staffordshire market town of Burton-upon-Trent. Once home to a powerful monastery frequented by royalty, the town became an important centre for brewing – it’s said that at one point one in four pints of beer sold in Britain was produced in Burton-upon-Trent! Though the presence of breweries in the town has declined, it is still known as the brewing capital of the UK. It’s also a fantastic place to live – with a wide range of shops and amenities readily available, a good selection of schools and attractions, and those impressive transport links, Burton-upon-Trent could be the ideal setting for your new home.

Everything you need

Burton-upon-Trent is well equipped for modern living, thanks to the presence of three shopping centres in the heart of the town - between Coopers Square, The Octagon and Burton Place, you’ll find a wide selection of high street stores. If you want to shop local there’s an outdoor market three times a week, or you could browse the stalls in the charming Victorian covered market hall. There are plenty of supermarkets and other essential shops to be found around the town, along with a good range of pubs, bars and eateries.

Attractions on your doorstep

Whatever your interests, there’s something for everyone in the area surrounding Burton-upon-Trent. One of the town’s most popular attractions is the National Brewery Centre where you can learn about the history of beer in the UK, take a tour and of course try some samples. There’s also Claymills Victorian Pumping Station where you can get to grips with the steam technology of the Industrial Revolution, and Sharpe’s Pottery Museum in nearby Swadlincote.

As for outdoor activities, the options are endless. Burton itself has pleasant riverside walks including the Abbey Trail and pretty Stapenhill Gardens. Just a couple of miles outside the town is picturesque and dog-friendly Branston Water Park, while National Forest Adventure Farm, a popular adventure play park with animals, is just 10 minutes from the centre of Burton. Cannock Chase AONB, a vast woodland nature reserve offering outdoor pursuits, is just under 20 miles away, or for something more challenging you could travel around the same distance to the glorious Peak District National Park.

Put family first

In addition to the array of child-friendly activities on offer, families will benefit from the ample selection of schools in and around Burton-upon-Trent. There are many primary schools to choose from, including Shobnall Primary School and Violet Way Academy (both rated Outstanding by Ofsted), plus several secondary schools and sixth forms.

Fantastic transport links

Burton-upon-Trent has industry of its own but is also a highly popular commuter town – by road and by rail, Derby, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester and Coventry can all be reached in under an hour. Derby is in particularly easy reach, with the A38 leading directly from Burton-upon-Trent to the Derby ring road, meaning you can be in the city in under half an hour. Burton-on-Trent train station is located in the town centre and provides regular links to the surrounding area, nearby cities and the rest of the UK beyond – or you could make use of the good local bus network. For travel further afield, the nearest airports are East Midlands Airport for domestic and European flights, and Birmingham Airport which operates flights around the globe.
