Chilton Polden

Being part of village life is the bonus of living in Chilton Polden. It’s one of a line of small, friendly villages, called The Poldens, that share a great location on the hillside just above the Somerset Levels, at the heart of the county. A new home here has a ready-made community to make you feel at home, lovely countryside all around it, and very easy access to the M5 at Bridgwater, for a quick and convenient route to Bristol and Taunton.

Living here

What a peaceful place to live. The neighbouring village of Edington has a Post Office & Stores, and a Surgery. The two villages are linked by The Broadway and are only a mile apart. Bridgwater, Street and Glastonbury are where you’d head for supermarkets and out of town retail parks. Street is also home to Clarks Village which has over 90 designer and high street brands at discount prices. It’s just 8 miles away.

Getting around

The M5 motorway is just 5 miles away, on the northern outskirts of Bridgwater.  This is a key route for Somerset. Bristol is just 40 miles to the north and Taunton is 20 miles to the south. You can travel by train with Great Western Railway services, from any of these places. The A39 links the M5 with Street, Glastonbury, and Wells, running along the ridge just above the village. There are local bus services between Bridgwater, Street and Glastonbury though in this lovely rural location, it’s fair to say that most people use their cars.

Going to school

Catcott, Woolavington and Kingsmoor are the local village primary schools. Street provides the nearest secondary level education, and it’s also home to Strode College of Further Education, one of the highest performing colleges nationally and with an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ rating.

Enjoying yourself

You might just be content with the calm lifestyle here, though it’s easy to get to the local towns for a wide range of leisure activities. The Somerset Levels are famous for wildlife and the unique landscape. You’ve got the RSPB reserve at Greylake, and the National Nature Reserve at Shapwick Heath nearby. Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral are two of the area’s historic landmarks, and if you’re lucky, you might get tickets for the iconic Glastonbury Festival.
