On the map Coventry may look like Birmingham’s little sister, but this is a determined city in its own right, with its own character and strengths. It’s won the double honour of being a UK City of Culture and has been chosen as a host city for the Commonwealth Games. It’s got past history and an important modern history, and today’s Coventry is a city for the future, with an important role to play in the forward-looking economy of the West Midlands. A new home in Coventry has easy access to central England’s motorway network, to the city of Birmingham and Birmingham Airport, and to Warwickshire’s unspoilt countryside.

On the go

Coventry is encircled by the M6 to the north, the M42 and the M40 to the west and the M1 to the east. With this great network on the doorstep, Coventry is in a strong position whichever your direction. The A46 is the main non-motorway route which links the city to Royal Leamington Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon, Evesham, and finally the M5 at Tewkesbury. The train from Coventry to Birmingham New Street takes just under half an hour, and to London Euston approximately an hour and a half. Closer to home, the train journey between Coventry and Leamington Spa takes around 16 minutes. Pool Meadow Bus Station is the starting point for bus services throughout the town and the local area, alongside the National Express West Midlands depot, for bus journeys further afield. Birmingham Airport is just 10 miles away via the A45.

Spoilt for choice

Shopping in Coventry is one thing, but you’ve also got the city centre shopping and restaurant delights of Birmingham’s Bullring, and the upmarket independent shops and café society of Royal Leamington Spa, to tempt you away. Back at home, Coventry has a choice of great shopping centres, including the West Orchards Shopping Centre, the Lower Precinct Shopping Centre, and the CentralSIX Retail Park. The A4053 inner city ring road gives you easy access to all the town centre facilities and venues. On the outskirts of town, you’ve got the Warwickshire Shopping Park, Cross Point, Cannon Park and Bannerbrook Park.

Education options

Many of Coventry’s secondary schools are specialist colleges. For example, Finham Park School is a mathematics and IT college, The Coventry Bluecoat Church of England School is a music college, and the Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School specialises in languages. Other schools specialise in the performing arts, humanities, business and enterprise, and science. There are three further education colleges, City College, Henley College, and Hereward College. Coventry University has a city centre campus, and The University of Warwick is on the southern fringes of the city.

Out of town

History is high on the agenda for a day out, as Warwickshire is home to Warwick and Kenilworth castles, as well as to Stratford-upon-Avon. Follow the A46 into the glorious Cotswolds and stop off in Moreton-in-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, and Bourton-on-the-Water.
