Persimmon Homes

Dewsbury

Dewsbury is halfway between its bigger neighbours, Leeds, and Huddersfield. With Bradford, Halifax, and Wakefield in its sights, this centrally placed town has excellent access to them all, with very convenient help from the M1 and the M62. In contrast with these busy West Yorkshire towns and cities, the Peak District National Park is a great distraction, with over 500 square miles of protected countryside on the doorstep. A new home here will help you on the way to achieving a great work life balance.

Great connections

Halfway between the M1 and the M62 is a good place to be if you need to commute throughout Yorkshire, the northwest, and the northeast. Leeds and Bradford are 10 miles to the north, Wakefield is 6 miles to the west, Huddersfield is 8 miles to the southwest, and Halifax is 9 miles to the northwest. The A644 is the main route through the town, linking it with Wakefield and Brighouse. Leeds Bradford Airport is 19 miles away, and Manchester Airport is just under 50 miles away. Trains from Dewsbury station connect with Leeds, Huddersfield, Manchester, York, Hull, and Redcar. Dewsbury bus station has multiple routes throughout the town and the wider area.

In and around town

You can choose between the traditional market, the national supermarkets, the world food minimarkets, and the two shopping centres in town, the White Rose Shopping Centre, and the Red Brick Shopping Mill. There are country parks and golf clubs on the outskirts, and town parks with play areas nearer the centre. There’s a Showcase Lux Cinema between Dewsbury and Leeds, just off the M62, and an IKEA there too, for ideas for your new home. There are riverside walks along the River Calder, as well as the Huddersfield to Dewsbury section of the National Cycle Network. The range of secondary schools includes two grammar schools, and the St John Fisher Catholic Voluntary Academy is a specialist sports college. Then there’s Kirklees College for further education, with a second campus in Huddersfield.

Out of town

With all that activity, and the additional energy of Leeds city centre for shopping and nightlife, it’s good to know that in under an hour you can be in the Peak District National Park for a change of scenery and a chance to slow down. Follow the Longdendale Trail along the shores of the Woodhead Reservoir, it’ll feel like another world. Combining outdoor space and culture, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is just off the A637, an easy 8 miles to the south of Dewsbury.
