Persimmon Homes

Fulford is a riverside residential area, that's still referred to as a village, just two miles to the south of the historic cathedral and university city of York. It’s close to the River Ouse, on its way through the city centre, giving it a great excuse for riverside walks, parks and rowing clubs, and providing a great backdrop for a new home. Several key routes radiate out from York, and the A1237, which circles the city, puts them all within easy reach, connecting Fulford with York’s main neighbours, Harrogate, Leeds, Scarborough and Hull.

On the go

The A1237 is the all-important link between the A64 Leeds to Scarborough road, the A59 Harrogate road, the A19 Middlesbrough to Selby road, the A166 Driffield road and the A1079 Hull road. The intersection between the A64 and the A19 is on the southern edge of Fulford. The city centre train station is on the East Coast mainline, operating direct services to London, as well as to all the main towns and cities of the Northeast and Northwest. It’s just over 30 miles to Leeds Bradford Airport on the A64. There are regular bus services giving you easy access to the city centre, as well as to the McArthurGlen Designer Shopping Outlet which is very much on the retail map, outside York’s own excellent city centre facilities.

Shopping list

Shopping in York is a treat rather than a chore, with cobbled streets, independent shops and wonderful cafés and restaurants to give yourself a break. Then there’s the Designer Outlet, less than 2 miles away for a very different experience. Back down to earth, Fulford has a good range of local shops for your day-to-day needs, and supermarkets nearby include ALDI, Sainsbury’s Local, Co-op Food and Iceland. There’s a Waitrose and a Morrisons within easy reach too.

School list

Schools in the immediate catchment area for Fulford include a Montessori Nursery School, St Oswald’s CofE Primary School, Fulford School for secondary age pupils and the York Steiner School for a different approach. There’s also an adult education centre within Fulford School, offering an amazing range of daytime and evening classes.

Leisure and entertainment

For time out and exercise, Fulford has a golf club close to the grounds of the university and there’s a lovely 30-acre riverside park, the Green Flag Rowntree Park, on the edge of the River Ouse. The park includes a tennis club, a model boating lake, play area, table tennis, basketball court and skate park. Being so close to the city centre, you’ll not be short of ideas for evenings out and family entertainment for rainy days.
