Gravesend has its own ‘South Bank’, with a promenade on the southern shores of the River Thames. You can watch the water-borne world go by, from the leisure boats of the Gravesend Town Pier Pontoon to the hard-working commercial traffic of the Thames. With a quick link to central London, a fast train service to Europe, the historic Chatham Dockyard, Europe’s largest shopping centre at Bluewater, and the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, all up its sleeve, this is a great place for a new home.
With Central London just 24 minutes away by train, and high-speed services to St Pancras and Stratford International, Gravesend is firmly on the commuters’ map as a home-base. You can catch the Eurostar at Ebbsfleet International Station, just 4 miles away, and be in Paris in two hours, and Brussels in one and a half. With these business links in mind, you’re also only 25 miles away from London City Airport via Greenwich. Arriva Kent and Fastrack provide the town’s bus services. There’s even a passenger services across the Thames to Tilbury in Essex, facing it across the water. For road travel, the A2 passes just to the south of the town. This joins the M2 and heads on down to Faversham, for connections to Canterbury, Dover, and the coastal resorts of the north Kent coast. The M25, heading north through the Dartford Tunnel and south to Sevenoaks and then into Surrey, is under 10 miles to the west.
There’s a great cluster of shops in and around the High Street, including in the St George’s Shopping Centre and the Thamesgate Shopping Centre. You’ll enjoy the regular Farmers’ Market too, bringing in fresh local produce from ‘the Garden of England’. For a major shopping experience, the Bluewater Shopping Centre is a full-on experience. It’s only 7 miles away via the A2. There are several secondary schools to choose from, Gravesend Grammar School, Northfleet School for Girls, Northfleet Technology College, Mayfield Grammar School, St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School, Thamesview School and St George’s Church of England School. There’s a community hospital, and a main medical clinic at Swan Yard, with several others GP surgeries throughout the town.
