Haverfordwest is the county town of Pembrokeshire in West Wales. It’s the largest town here and so it’s a focal point for Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock, Fishguard and St Davids, and is the main business centre for the area. The River Cleddau is at the heart of the town, which has a lovely old centre and high street. Haverfordwest is just a few miles inland from Pembrokeshire’s stunning coastal National Park so your new home here has the best of both worlds on its doorstep.
As it’s a transport and business hub for West Wales, Haverfordwest has all the facilities and amenities that you’ll need. You’ve got high street shops, the Riverside Shopping Centre, and the Withybush Retail Park. Withybush Hospital is the district general hospital, on the edge of the town. There’s a good choice of schools, and for further education, Pembrokeshire College has a campus in the town, as well as one in Milford Haven.
Haverfordwest is on the A40, the main road route that connects with the A48 at Carmarthen, and the M4 at Pontarddulais, just outside Llanelli. The M40 then takes you on up to Fishguard. The train station is on the West Wales Line and you can tie in your travel with PlusBus services to make it easy to get around the town. An extra bonus are the Stena Line ferry services from Milford Haven and Fishguard which take you to Rosslare in Ireland.
The great outdoors
Pembrokeshire is one of the most beautiful counties to live in. The coastline is a national treasure as well as a national park! You’ve got coast and countryside to choose from for days out and a change of scenery. Tackle the coastal path and see the amazing wildlife, explore the Milford Haven Waterway for hidden villages and harbours, and head for the Preseli Hills for open space and panoramic views.
There are some great activities for all the family. The town’s leisure centre has a pool and fitness studios, children can let off steam at the Oakwood Theme Park, and the traditional seaside towns of Saundersfoot and Tenby are great for sandy beaches. Historic highlights are St David’s, and Picton, Pembroke and Carew castles.
