Persimmon Homes

Hemlington has Middlesbrough in the background and the North York Moors National Park on its horizon. It’s a self-contained suburb, with its own community feel, its own amenities, and with the excellent back-up of Middlesbrough for town centre shopping, leisure, and entertainment. Three key routes on three sides make it a popular location for commuting to work, and the National Park, covering 554 square miles, including 26 miles of coastline, is the local landmark for your new home.

On the go

Hemlington is framed by the A19, A174 and A172. These main routes head into Middlesbrough and Stockton-on-Tees, connecting York, Thirsk, Redcar, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Whitby, with these main focal points for the county’s business, industry, and employment. You travel further afield, you can join the A66(M) and the A1(M) just the other side of Darlington, 20 miles to the west. You can get a train into Middlesbrough from Nunthorpe, 3 miles away, taking less than 15 minutes so a really good option if you work in the town centre. Stagecoach operates the public bus services, making it easy to get to the neighbouring areas of Coulby Newham and Stainton as well as into Middlesbrough. Teesside International Airport is just 11 miles to the west, taking around 20 minutes by car via the A66.

On the school run

There are three primary schools, Viewley Hill, Hemlington Hall and St. Gerard’s RC Primary School. The King’s Academy at Coulby Newham is the nearest secondary school. Other options in the area are the Outwood Academy Acklam, and Nunthorpe Academy which is a specialist Science, Business and Enterprise Academy.

Local shopping

Hemlington has several local shops, and the Viewley Hill Shopping Centre brings many of them together under one roof. There’s a Post Office, a bakery, a convenience store, and a branch of Boots. The Parkway Shopping Centre, open 7 days a week, ALDI, and Tesco Extra, all at Coulby Newham are on hand for all your day-to-day essentials. If there’s anything you can’t get in Hemlington, you’ll find it in Middlesbrough’s thriving town centre where there are 4 shopping centres and all the high street brands.

Out and about

You’ve got Middlesbrough for a day out shopping with friends, the North York Moors for a day out hiking and biking, and the beaches at Redcar, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, or Whitby a bit further away, for a day out with the family. Closer to home, Hemlington Lake and Recreation Centre has 39 acres of open parkland and activities for children and adults.
