Persimmon Homes

Situated in East Yorkshire, on the banks of the Humber estuary, Hull is an up-and-coming city boasting superb culture, attractions, industry and transport, all of which make it a fantastic place to call home. The historic Old Town and scenic waterfront have long attracted artists and poets, and now people flock to enjoy the eclectic shopping, vibrant nightlife and rich culture of this dynamic city. It’s no surprise that in 2017 Hull was awarded the UK City of Culture, an accolade that came with a large investment in the city’s historic past and bright future.

Excellent shopping and leisure

Hull offers an eclectic mix of shops to suit all tastes. There’s a good range of high street stores, independent boutiques, and three shopping centres. Along with these are numerous coffee shops, restaurants and cafes, great for socialising.

For extra leisure time, the shopping centres also offer multi-screen cinemas. Or if sport is your preferred form of entertainment, you’ll be pleased to know that Hull is a premier city for football and rugby. The city has two big rugby clubs: Hull FC and KR, formerly Hull Kingston Rovers. Meanwhile Hull City football club is in the premier league, with matches played at the KCOM Stadium.

A wealth of attractions to explore

For residents and visitors alike there is so much to see and do in the city centre. Why not explore one of the city’s many museums and galleries, all of which have free admission. Wander around the Ferens Art Gallery or discover more about Hull’s maritime heritage at the Maritime Museum - complete with a full-sized whale skeleton and various beautiful artefacts from Hull’s former merchant, fishing and whaling trade.

Children and adults will enjoy the Streetlife Museum of Transport, a fantastic attraction that brings to life 200 years of history through the exhibitions and interactive sections. Another hugely popular attraction is ‘The Deep’, an award-winning aquarium home to an impressive selection of marine life including sharks and rays.

History on the go

For a chance to soak up the sights of your new city, follow the famous and innovative Severn Seas Fish Trail through the historic Hull Old Town. Perfect for young families, the trail is made up of 41 pieces of ‘fish’ sculpture made from traditional materials, and there’s even a fun certificate from the Tourist Information Centre upon completion.

Hull boasts some stunning architecture, including the Scale Lane Bridge - dubbed the ‘bridge to nowhere’ as the other half wasn’t built, after plans for redevelopment on the eastern side of the river never came to fruition. Instead, visitors can ride the bridge as it moves to let ships pass. Robust and striking, the bridge is also known as the ‘pinball flipper’ and is now a landmark in its own right.

Education for all

This family-friendly city presents a great range of schooling options for children of all ages. There’s an impressive number of schools rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and many highly-regarded state and private schools. Older students also have several options for higher education, including Hull College and the University of Hull.

Excellent transport links

Hull has regular train services connecting the city to the rest of the UK. For local travel, there are several rail links to the wider East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire regions. Northern Rail also operates services to Scarborough, Cleethorpes, Bridlington and Beverley.

Running every 10 minutes, the Park & Ride provides an easy way to travel into the city and regular bus routes throughout Hull make getting around the centre nice and simple. For day trips, there are buses from the city centre to East Yorkshire’s towns and villages, Scarborough, Bridlington and York.

If you prefer two wheels, there are many cycle routes around Hull. At the Paragon Interchange Station there is Hull Cycle Hub, offering secure bike storage, bike repairs and bike hire.

With its mix of historic charm and modern amenities, ideal transport links for commuting and wealth of shops, Hull could be a perfect place for you to buy your new home.
