Huntingdon is in the heart of rural Cambridgeshire, but it’s got easy links to the M11 and A1(M) and a direct train to London up its sleeve. With such excellent connections, it’s a very popular place for combining family and working life. A new home here is less than an hour away from London Kings Cross by train. The River Great Ouse and its unique water meadows separate the town from its neighbour across the water, Godmanchester, and provide a tranquil local landmark to come home to.
On the go
The area’s key routes, the A1 and the A14, meet just outside the town, putting Cambridge, Bedford, Kettering, Letchworth Garden City, and Peterborough within easy reach. The town’s train station is on the East Coast Main Line, with services every half hour to London, an hour away, and Peterborough, 15 minutes away. Cambridge Airport is 18 miles away, Luton is 32 miles away and Stansted is 36 miles away.
Huntingdon is an historic riverside market town, with a market square at its heart and a fascinating local history. It’s been an important place since Roman times, and over time, plenty of ancient buildings have left their atmospheric mark. There are some lovely independent shops in the town, the Chequers Shopping Centre, a Saturday market, a Tesco Extra, and a Sainsbury’s supermarket, in addition to some smaller convenience stores.
There are six primary schools to choose from, and for secondary education, students have St Peter’s School and Hinchingbrooke School. Both these schools have sixth forms. The Huntingdon Campus of the Cambridge Regional College offers further education for 16+, apprenticeships, adult education courses and access to higher education.
For a breath of fresh air, there’s the country park at Hinchinbrook, the Riverside Park, and the Godmanchester Nature Reserve. If you need a bit more focus, One Leisure Huntingdon has squash courts, a swimming pool, gym, and day spa. For a day of culture, cinema, shopping, and eating out, you can head for Cambridge, less than 20 miles away. You could even join a rowing club and make the most of the river.
