Persimmon Homes

Village living in a rural county is a win-win situation for a new home in Ixworth. Surrounded by fields for that country feel-good factor, less than 10 miles from Bury St Edmunds for work and leisure and with both a primary school and a secondary school, this is definitely a candidate for the ‘Good life’. This is Suffolk living with long-distance connections; it’s on the National Express London to Great Yarmouth coach route and Greater Anglia train services from Bury St Edmunds connect you to mainline routes from Cambridge and Ipswich.

Village amenities

Ixworth has a small range of convenient local shops including a butcher, a convenience store, a bistro, a café and a Chinese takeaway. Nearby Thurston has a Londis and a Co-op, and Bury St Edmunds has most of the national supermarket chains. There’s a village hall, GP surgery, a Post Office, a library and a couple of friendly local pubs where you can round off the day.

Getting around

Ixworth is just off the A143 Bury St Edmunds to Great Yarmouth road, the main route from the county town all the way to the coast. You can pick up the A14 from Bury St Edmunds for Cambridge 28 miles to the west and Ipswich 26 miles to the southeast. From Cambridge, there are easy links to the M11 and the A1(M). Bury St Edmunds station and the local station at Thurston provide rail services with Greater Anglia, including connections to Colchester via Ipswich and London Liverpool Street via Cambridge. London Stansted and Norwich are the nearest airports for you.

Bury St Edmunds

This is a lovely and historic town to turn to for shopping and entertainment. It’s got 1,000 years of history alongside all the facilities for life today. The ruined abbey and the gardens are at the old heart of the town, it’s got excellent shopping, great restaurants, sports and entertainment venues and a fabulous market on Wednesdays and Saturdays that are worthy of a day out in their own right. It’s a great neighbour for Ixworth to have.
