Persimmon Homes

Kinross enjoys a setting right on the edge of Loch Leven, the Scottish Lowlands’ largest loch. Complete with a castle on an island, and the heritage of Mary Queen of Scots, this traditional county town celebrates its history with an outlook and amenities for life today. The M90 makes sure that it’s firmly connected with Perth, Dunfermline and Edinburgh, making it a popular commuter town for today’s working families.

Travel plans

Edinburgh is 27 miles to the south and Perth is 17 miles to the north, and the M90 is a direct route between the two. The A91 crosses the motorway just above the town, creating a good link between St Andrews on the east coast, and Stirling. You can cross the Firth of Forth at Queensferry if you are heading into the capital, or you can take the A985 at Dunfermline if you are travelling to Falkirk and the M80 for Glasgow. Travelling by train is a good alternative, you can sit back and take in Fife’s lovely scenery on your way. The journey time by train from Kinross to Perth is around half an hour, and to Edinburgh’s Waverley Station it’s about an hour. There are 20 bus routes through the town, connecting you with all the area’s main towns, including Edinburgh, and you can leave your car at the town’s Park & Ride. Edinburgh Airport is 25 miles away via the Queensferry crossing.

Staying at home

Kinross has all the facilities and amenities of a family-sized town. The high street has the usual range of local shops and you’ve also got a Co-op, an M & S Simply Food and a Sainsbury’s. Perth, Dunfermline and Glenrothes add to the list of local towns with good amenities.

Going to school

Your children can start school life at Kinross Primary School and then progress to Kinross High School which is at the Loch Leven Community Campus.

Leisure time

With a loch on the doorstep, there are some ready-made outdoor activities for all ages. The Loch Leven Heritage Trail will challenge you to 13 miles of walking and cycling around the shores. Kirkgate Park, the Loch Leven National Nature Reserve and the Kinross golf course all enjoy their lakeside setting. If the weather is against you, Live Active Loch Leven is the town’s leisure centre. Dunfermline is where you’d go for the ODEON Cinema, Hollywood Bowl and other family entertainment venues.
