Persimmon Homes

Llantilio Pertholey

Llantilio Pertholey is a village on the northern edge of the lovely Monmouthshire market town of Abergavenny, which is known as the Gateway to Wales. There’s a village feel, a growing family-friendly community, and a local school for your children. A new home here has the bonus of being part of Abergavenny, with easy access into England via Herefordshire, to Newport and Cardiff along the South Wales corridor, and one of Wales’s most scenic cross-country routes, the A40 across the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Transport links

This is a very popular commuting option to the north of Newport and Cardiff. The A4042 takes you down to Newport and the M4 via Cwmbran and the A40 is the connection between Ross-on-Wye, and all the way across the Brecon Beacons to Carmarthen. It’s the scenic alternative to the M4 if you want to take the journey at a slower pace. The A465 links Abergavenny with Hereford and Merthyr Tydfil, before continuing on to Neath and Swansea. Abergavenny Station is on the Newport to Shrewsbury Line. There’s a great train link from Abergavenny to Cardiff Central, just over 30 miles away, taking around 50 minutes. It generally takes just over an hour to drive to Bristol. Abergavenny’s bus station is in the town centre, with services connecting to Llantilio Pertholey as well as the wider area. Cardiff Airport is 45 miles away, so about an hour and a quarter’s drive time.

Local amenities

With all the wonderful facilities of Abergavenny less than 2 miles way, you’ll have shops, cafés, restaurants, and a wonderful Tuesday indoor and outdoor market. Llantilio has McColl’s and Londis convenience stores, and there’s a Post Office in neighbouring Mardy. The larger supermarkets are in Abergavenny, where there’s a Waitrose, Tesco Metro and ALDI.

Local schools

Llantilio has its own primary school, Llantilio Pertholey CV Primary School, though there are other options for your children in the catchment area.  King Henry VII School is the English-language comprehensive school in Abergavenny.

Out and about

Abergavenny itself is a really lovely little town, and it’s a great meeting place for family and friends on your doorstep. Further afield you’ve got the great contrast of the city of Cardiff or the Brecon Beacons for a day out.  For high street shopping, entertainment and night life, head for the city. For high peaks, wilderness and night skies, head for the national park. You won’t be disappointed whichever you choose.
