Llantwit Major

Llantwit Major is a friendly town with history to give it character and amenities for today. It’s in a great location for commuting to Cardiff and Bridgend so it’s a popular choice for families and professionals as well as down-sizers. A new home here in the Vale of Glamorgan has the appeal of the sea too, as it’s close to the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, 14 miles of unspoilt coastline for walking and water sports. There’s a train station, a good choice of schools, local shops and supermarkets, and a leisure centre. With easy access to city, coast and countryside, Llantwit Major ticks all the boxes.

Getting around

The B4265 and B4270 meet in the town, connecting you with all the villages and coastal towns between Cardiff and Bridgend. The A48 is just a few miles north, passing through Cowbridge and creating an alternative east-west route to the M4. You can join the motorway at Junctions 34 and 35. It usually takes about 40 minutes to drive the 15 miles to Cardiff and 20 minutes to Bridgend which is 9 miles away, so both places are within easy reach if you need to do the journey on a daily basis. The train is a good alternative, with the journey time into Cardiff taking about 45 minutes and to Bridgend taking just 15 minutes. For flights, Cardiff Airport is only 7 miles away, between St Athan and Barry, so you’ll have an escape to the sun on your doorstep. The town has three bus routes, between Bridgend and Barry, to Cardiff via Penarth and to Talbot Green.

Going to school.

Llantwit Major has four primary schools and its own secondary school, Llanilltud Fawr Comprehensive School – it’s a bonus for children to be able to progress into secondary education in their hometown.

Sport and leisure

You can’t live this near to Cardiff and not support a rugby team. Llantwit Major Rugby Football Club has two senior teams, a youth team and several mini/junior teams. The town is also home to Llantwit Major Football Club and there’s a cricket club too. The leisure centre offers a gym, swimming pool and sports hall. Llantwit Major Beach is a popular place for surfing.
