Persimmon Homes

Loughborough is pretty much at the heart of the East Midlands. It’s a busy market and university town that’s close to Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby. It’s near the Nottinghamshire border and it’s a short distance from East Midlands Airport. The UK’s second largest city, Birmingham, is just down the road, the M1 will keep you on the move, and the countryside of rural Leicestershire to the east will give you a change of scenery. This all adds up to a great location for your new home, supported by a transport network that opens up great opportunities for business and pleasure.

Getting around

Loughborough is a stone’s throw from the M1, via the A512. Once on the motorway you’ve got quick links to the M69 between Leicester and Coventry, the M42 into Birmingham, the M6 and the M6 Toll. To the north, the M1 takes you to Leeds via Sheffield and Nottingham, and to the south it will take you all the way to Watford via Northampton, Milton Keynes, and Luton. The town’s main roads, the A50, A46, A607, A47 and A6 all connect with the city’s ring road. East Midlands Railway operates the train services through Loughborough, with trains to Nottingham and Derby taking less than half an hour, and to Leicester taking an average 15 minutes. It’s only a 15-minute drive to East Midlands Airport – a great asset for work and leisure. Arriva and Kinch Buses operate services throughout the town and there’s a sprint service into the town centre.

Going to town

The town centre has a pedestrianised shopping centre, and the main shops are largely centred around Market Place and Market Street. The traditional names give it away – Loughborough has a large outdoor market every Thursday and Saturday, with a monthly farmers’ market too. The Rushes is the town’s main purpose-built shopping centre, linked to the town centre by Churchgate and Churchgate Mews where you’ll find plenty of independent shops. A town that’s home to a well-established university, means a town with amenities to match, and Loughborough has an extra buzz as a result.

Going to school

There are certainly plenty of options in Loughborough. Limehurst Academy is a multicultural 11 – 16 school with a central catchment area. Loughborough Grammar School (Boys) and Loughborough High School (Girls) are long-established independent schools in the town. Loughborough College of Further Education is an alternative to sixth form, along with vocational courses, apprenticeships, and higher education courses.
