Persimmon Homes

Markinch is a quiet residential community on the outskirts of Glenrothes in Fife. It’s between the coast and the countryside of the Lomond Hills Regional Park, and halfway between St Andrews and Edinburgh. Whether you need to commute for work or want a home base with good transport networks, this is a very convenient location for your new home. Kinross, Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline are within easy reach and Scotland’s exciting capital is less than an hour away.

Travel plans

The A92 Dunfermline to Dundee route passes between Markinch and Glenrothes, it’s an important route serving the village. The other main A roads across Fife are the A91 and the A915. The A92 joins the M90 for an easy journey of just over half an hour to Edinburgh Airport. There’s a station here too, so you can get a train from Markinch and be at Edinburgh Waverley in less than an hour. East Scotland Stagecoach bus routes from Markinch and Glenrothes connect the local area as well as the main towns and cities.

Going to school

Primary school-age children can enjoy the benefits of a local school, before moving up to one of Glenrothes’ three secondary schools; Glenrothes High, Auchmuty High and Glenwood High, just down the road.

Shopping list

The village has a Co-op and a local store, Greens of Markinch, for your day-to-day provisions. For a wider range, Glenrothes has the Kingdom Shopping Centre as well as ASDA and Morrison's supermarkets. The Kingdom Centre is the largest shopping venue in Fife so it’s a very convenient asset to have so close by. A bit further away, the Fife Central Retail Park on the outskirts of Kirkaldy is easy to reach via the A92.

Sport and Leisure

Gilvenbank Community Sports Hub and the Michael Woods Sports & Leisure Centre are two of the local family-friendly options. If you want to stretch your legs, set off into the Lomond Regional Park or set yourself the 13-mile challenge of a walk around Loch Leven. If golf is your sport, you’ve got so much choice, not just around Glenrothes but all along the coast as well.
