Persimmon Homes

A new home in the village of Monkton puts you on the map in more ways than one. If you want to be within easy reach of Glasgow for work, and an easy flight away from a range of European holiday destinations, then this is the spot. The M77 into Glasgow from Kilmarnock and Glasgow Prestwick International Airport are travel options on the doorstep. Another bonus to living here is the Ayrshire coast, with wonderful beaches and views across the Firth of Clyde to the Isle of Arran. These are all big landmarks for a small village, making it an exciting and well-connected place to live.

Travel plans

Three main A roads serve Monkton, the A78 coastal route to Glasgow via Ardrossan, following the Firth of Clyde around the Clyde Muirshiel National Park, and the A77 which is a more determined route, joining the M77 at Kilmarnock and heading into central Glasgow. The A77 continues south to Ayr and then all the way down the coast to Stranraer where you can pick up the ferry to Belfast. The A71 heads inland Irvine, connecting with the M74. The A79 takes you into Prestwick and Ayr. Prestwick International Airport is your local asset for flights to several popular European destinations and for a different journey altogether, you can get a ferry across the Clyde from Ardrossan, to the Isle of Arran or to Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula.

Local amenities

Monkton has a primary school, post office, and a local convenience store. Neighbouring Prestwick adds to the local facilities with several primary schools, and the Prestwick Academy for secondary school education. Ayr, just 5 miles to the south, also has a secondary school, Kyle Academy, and it’s the larger centre for supermarkets. It’s got a Tesco Extra, Asda Superstore, ALDI, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Lidl.  Ayr Central is a large, covered shopping centre where you can stop for a coffee and a bite to eat too. For sport and fitness, Prestwick Tennis & Fitness Centre, Prestwick Swimming Pool, and the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr will keep you on the go.

Head to the coast

For leisure time, plenty of space, and views across to Arran, Ayrshire’s long sandy beaches are a wonderful local amenity for all the family. You are spoilt for choice with Ayr Beach, Barassie Beach, Stevenston Beach and Prestwick Beach. There are many more to discover.
