Persimmon Homes

Newcastle under Lyme

Newcastle-under-Lyme has the heritage of the potteries in its history, along with its close neighbour Stoke-on-Trent. Its key location in Staffordshire, and its busy canal network put it on the Midlands map, and though the waterways are no longer there, its location continues to stand it in good stead. Newcastle-under-Lyme is literally halfway between Birmingham and Manchester, and with great local and long-distance connections, this is a great place for a new home.

On the go

The A53, A34 ad A525 all meet in Newcastle-under-Lyme, with the A527 creating a ring round around the town centre. The M6 is Staffordshire’s motorway, keeping you well connected with the Midlands, Birmingham, Greater Manchester, and Merseyside. FirstGroup and Arriva buses provide public transport for Newcastle-under-Lyme, connecting you with Stafford, Market Drayton and Shrewsbury amongst their main routes and there’s a bus station in the town centre. Stoke-on-Trent is the nearest train station for main line services with Avanti West Coast trains, and there’s an easy connection to Crewe, the major railway hub for the wider area here. There are two international airports within easy reach – Manchester Airport is 35 miles to the north and Birmingham Airport is 55 miles to the southeast.

Going shopping

ALDI, Tesco, Sainsbury, Lidl and Morrisons all have a presence in the town. For a different shopping experience, there’s a well-established market that’s open six days a week. You’ll enjoy browsing the general market on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, the antiques market on Tuesdays, and bric a brac on Thursdays. The town centre has also got the Roebuck Shopping Centre, the Lymelight Boulevard and the Astley Walk shopping centre for a mix of high street and independent shops.

Student life

In addition to a large choice of primary schools, Newcastle has five secondary schools in the state sector as well as an independent school. Newcastle-under-Lyme College is the town’s largest sixth form. The campus of Keele University is 3 miles from the centre of town.

Out with the family

Newcastle-under-Lyme is right in the middle of the map for the city and the countryside. Within a one hour drive you can take the family hiking in the Peak District National Park, you can indulge in retail therapy in Manchester, take in the art galleries in Birmingham, or you can step back in time in historic Shrewsbury or Chester.
