Persimmon Homes

Newton Abbot

South Devon is a firm favourite for holidaymakers, but how about living here? Newton Abbot is well-placed for the very best of family life. It’s a great place to set up home. The key factors that Newton Abbot benefits from include being on a mainline rail route, having a wide range of local shops and services, and being perfectly located halfway between the fabulous South Devon coast and the wide-open space of the Dartmoor National Park. An easy link to the A38 Devon Expressway is good for commuters who need to travel to Plymouth and Exeter. Easy local routes are good for family days out on the sandy beaches of Torquay, Shaldon and Teignmouth or in the heart of Dartmoor at Widecombe in the Moor, Dartmeet and Two Bridges for a long walk in the national park.

Surrounded by countryside

Whichever direction you head in from Newton Abbot you’ll quickly be in the countryside. South Devon is predominantly rural, with traditional village communities and beautiful farmland between the larger towns. There are long-standing holiday hotspots but it’s easy to get off the beaten track too. Whether you prefer the small market town atmosphere of Ashburton, colourful Totnes and historic Dartington, or the seaside resorts of Paignton, Torquay and Teignmouth, there’s something for all the family.

Getting around

Newton Abbot is on the A380 – the main route linking Paignton and Torquay with Exeter. A short distance away, the major route for South Devon, the A38, links with the M5 at Exeter and follows the edge of the Dartmoor National Park to Plymouth and then on into Cornwall. Train services have always played a vital role for the town. You can be in Exeter in 20 minutes and Plymouth in 40 minutes.
