Situated on the River Nene, Northampton is famous for its history which is in evidence across the town. A 9th-century castle, a 12th- century church and nunnery and a breath-taking cathedral are just some of the town’s fascinating range of architecture, with the iconic Northampton Lighthouse also towering over the town at an impressive 418ft. Other key landmarks include Northampton’s market square, one of the largest and oldest of its kind in Britain. Dating from 1235, today square hosts a rich assortment of markets, events and stalls to suit all tastes.

Host to Northampton University and with over 60 schools in the town, including award-winning state and independent schools, Northampton is perfect for those looking for high-quality education provision.

Great sport and leisure facilities

Billing Aquadrome, Nene Whitewater Centre and the Benham Sports Arena, many golf clubs, a tennis centre and a skate park are just some of the active leisure options Northampton offers. The town also hosts Premiership rugby team the Northampton Saints, and the iconic British Grand Prix racetrack Silverstone is also just a few miles south of the town.

Excellent transport links

Northampton boasts excellent transport links nationwide. The town’s train station enjoys a key position on the Northampton loop of the West Coast mainline, linking the town to the countrywide network. For bus travel, Northampton’s North Gate bus station offers a variety of services to Wellingborough, Daventry, Towcester and beyond, and is a popular transport choice in the town. For those who prefer to travel by car, Northampton is well-placed for road links. Served by a number of trunk roads, including the A45, A43 and A14, the town also enjoys a position near key junctions of the M1 (junctions 15, 15a and 16), meaning easy road connections to Coventry, Leicester, Peterborough and beyond.

Finally, for air travel you have a choice of three major airports: Luton Airport 39 miles away, Birmingham Airport 47 miles away, and East Midlands Airport 52 miles away.
