Peebles

Peebles is in the Scottish Borders, the gateway county to Scotland from England. Edinburgh will be firmly in your sights; Scotland’s famous capital city is just 21 miles away. The town sits right on the River Tweed, an iconic natural landmark that has its own claim to fame with a world-wide reputation for salmon fishing. Whether you are an angler or not, the benefits of the river, the visitor economy, and the landscape of the Borders, have well and truly come to town. Peebles is a great setting for your new home.

Living here

You’ll be able to find your creative self here, Peebles has a thriving arts and festival scene to get involved with. Its annual festivals are the Beltane Festival, Peebles Arts Festival, Tweedlove Bike Festival and Imaginarium. Even the shops have won the town awards! The main shopping areas are the High Street, the Old Town, Eastgate, Northgate and School Brae. There’s a strong business community here too and that means a range of different opportunities and a good buy local culture. There are some national brand supermarkets too, with a Tesco Superstore, M&S Simply Food, Sainsbury’s, along with the SPAR and McColl’s convenience stores.

Travelling to Edinburgh

Edinburgh is so easy to reach and it’s where many of Peebles’ residents commute to. The A703 takes you into the city via the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The usual journey time is just under an hour. If it’s Scotland’s other great city that you need to go to, the A72 cross-country route takes you to Glasgow via Carluke, or you can go up to Edinburgh to join the M8. Galashiels has a train station with services to Edinburgh taking about 50 minutes. Edinburgh Airport is 26 miles away, taking about 45 minutes to drive there.

Across the border

For work, or visiting friends and family in England, the A74(M) takes you to Carlisle and the M6, and the A68 takes you into the Northumberland National Park where you can branch off for Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It’s beautiful countryside to drive through.
