Portchester is in a great location for work and pleasure. You can get just as easily into Southampton or Portsmouth, as into the New Forest. These two cities and the urban area between the two is busy with the world of business and commerce, whilst the Solent is busy with the world of boats and yachts. Your new home will have the best of both worlds, as Portchester is the popular residential option that sits between the two.
There are plenty of local facilities here, and if there’s something you can’t find, you’re bound to find it in the Fareham Shopping Centre a stone’s throw away. Nearer to Southampton, the Whiteley Shopping Centre includes restaurants, a supermarket, and a multiplex cinema along with the high street brands.
Porchester is conveniently tucked just below the M27, the connecting motorway between Portsmouth and Southampton. It’s always good to have a local alternative, and you can get into Portsmouth and Fareham without having to use the motorway. From Southampton you can pick up the M3 for a direct motorway route to London, via Winchester. Southwestern Railway operates the train services from Porchester station, with the journey time to Portsmouth Harbour taking 25 minutes, and into Southampton taking just under an hour. Trains to London would be via Southampton. Southampton Airport is just over 15 miles away so it’s a great local option for flights.
Going to School
Portchester has got 5 primary schools and Portchester Community School is a mixed comprehensive school for 11 – 16-year-olds. For Post-16 students, Portsmouth’s further education colleges are on hand as are the Richard Taunton Sixth Form College and Itchen Sixth Form College in Southampton. UCT Portsmouth offers STEM opportunities for 16 to 18-year-olds.
Out to sea
With the Solent and the Isle of Wight as your neighbours, this area is all about the sea. Whether you are a sailor or not, it’s a wonderful natural landmark to have on your doorstep. Watching the Isle of Wight ferry is as much fun as watching the sailing boats as they come and go. If you want to stay on dry land, there are some great beaches to take the family to, for example Lee-on-the-Solent which is just 7 miles away.
