Purton

Purton is a few miles outside Swindon, a few miles away from the M4 and not far from the glorious Cotswolds. The village is just the right size to have some great amenities, just the right distance from Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett, and Cirencester to be a great commuting base, or for larger shops, and just the right place for your new home if you are looking for somewhere that’s peaceful but not remote. This Wiltshire village has got it right.

Living here

Shops in the village include a Co-op, a farm shop, a pharmacy, and a convenience store. Close by on the outskirts of Swindon there’s a Tesco Express, ALDI, Waitrose and Sainsbury’s Local. If you don’t want to head to Swindon, Royal Wootton Bassett includes a Marks & Spencer Simply Food outlet amongst its supermarkets. The village has a choice of pubs too, a great way to get to know the community.

Village schools

Children will have a local head start for their education. Purton has got St Mary’s CE Primary School and the Bradon Forest School is a mixed secondary school with academy status. Sixth form education is offered at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy, Cirencester College, Swindon College, or New College, Swindon.

Out and about

Purton is just 4 miles northwest of Swindon town centre, so it’s a very easy commute as well as for a larger range of facilities. Cricklade and Royal Wootton Bassett are around 4 miles away, and Cirencester is 12 miles away. Junction 16 of the M4 is 3 miles away, giving you an excellent route to Bristol or to Reading and London.  Swindon is the nearest mainline train station for Great Western Rail services. Bristol Airport is about 50 miles away and there’s a good route, avoiding the city centre. Bus services to and from Swindon, connect Purton with the wider area.

Leisure and Entertainment

Swindon has cinemas, leisure centres, the Greenbridge Retail & Leisure Centre, a Designer Outlet, and an Arts Centre. In addition to the town’s parks, you’ve got the Moulden Hill Country Park, Lydiard Park, and the Shaw Forest Park close by. The Cotswold Country Park & Beach, Waterland Outdoor Pursuits and the Cotswold Sailing Club make the most of the complex of lakes at Somerford Keynes and South Cerney.
