There couldn’t be a better place in North Dorset for your new home. Sherborne is absolutely lovely; it’s a small town with a big history, a wonderful high street, a traditional open-air market, a train station on the London Waterloo line, a stunning abbey and two castles. Everything is within walking distance and so your new home will be a welcome part of this pretty town.
As well as all the amenities for day-to-day living, it’s a real bonus that they are in such a lovely setting. You’ve got the independent shops and the market in the high street, two large supermarkets – Sainsbury’s and Waitrose – and some smaller convenience stores. There’s a gentle feel to Sherborne, making it a great place to bring up a family, as a base to come back to if you work further away or for your retirement years.
Sherborne is on the London Waterloo train line, so it’s really easy if you need to commute to the city. The A303 is the main road route from London into the South West – it joins the M3 at Basingstoke – and there are road links to Sherborne from Wincanton and Sparkford. North Dorset is an unspoilt rural area and so the local bus services are popular too.
Going to school
Sherborne is famous for its independent schools, but it also has an excellent state sector secondary school, The Gryphon School, in addition to a choice of friendly primary schools.
You won’t tire of strolling into the town centre to browse in the shops or to meet friends in one of the cafes or parks. Try the Pear Tree Deli for lunch – just one of many to choose from – or Pageant Park for a picnic. Living in a historic town means that there’s plenty for friends and family to see when they come to stay. Day trips by train couldn’t be easier; it takes 40 minutes to get to Salisbury, two and a half hours to get to London, and just over an hour to get to Exeter.
