Persimmon Homes

What a great location for your new home, under 4 miles from the historic cathedral and castle city of Durham. It’s an ideal base and the village is just the right size for getting to know people and becoming a part of the community. With two village shops, a primary school, a GP Surgery and a choice of local pubs, this is village life as it is meant to be. Having Durham on the doorstep adds history and culture, and the vibrant nightlife of a university city.

It’s great to have a local shop to support, and for your weekly supermarket shop or some retail therapy, you’ve got all the amenities of Durham. There you can browse the independent shops in the historic centre, take in the indoor and outdoor markets, make the most of the Riverwalk and Prince Bishops shopping centres or use the big Durham City Retail Park to the northeast of the city.

Getting around

Sherburn is on the crossroads of the B1283 into Durham and the A688 which connects with the A1(M) at Bowburn to the south. It just takes a few minutes to drive into Durham, which is an easy and compact city to get around. Durham Train Station has mainline services operated by London North Eastern Railway, TransPennine and CrossCountry, with connections the length and breadth of the country, from Edinburgh to Plymouth!  You can hop on a bus and be in Durham in no time, with services running every 30 minutes.

Going to school

Sherburn has its own primary school which is a great asset for local families. Belmont Community School takes 11 – 16-year-old pupils and among other options for state secondary education are Durham Trinity School & Sports College and Durham Johnston School.  Durham has a choice of independent schools too.

Entertainment and Leisure

If you head into the city, you’ll have a great range of pubs, cafés and restaurants for an evening out. Spend time on or by the river - especially during the regatta, explore the cobbled streets around the cathedral and castle, try some of food on offer in the market square and watch the world go by. The ODEON Luxe Durham is a great backup for a rainy day. There are a number of leisure centres, or for a bit of a treat, you could become a member of the Bannantyne Health Club & Spa.
