Persimmon Homes

The successful, fast-growing town of Telford lies in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire countryside, surrounded by some of the country’s most inspirational landscapes. It offers an unrivalled location to explore some breathtaking scenery whilst making the most of excellent shops, schools and entertainment. Whether you crave a simple Sunday afternoon stroll, or a more adventurous hike, you couldn’t be better located to take advantage of all the area has to offer. Telford is dominated by The Wrekin, a large hill of 407 metres – a popular choice for dog walkers and fitness fans. Closer to the heart of the town the 450-acre Telford Town Park is the perfect place for a fun-filled family day out. There’s also a great selection of leisure and entertainment venues including the Oakengates Leisure Centre, Telford Ice Rink, a Ski Centre, a 10-screen cinema and a choice of golf courses. And for when you need to top up your energy reserves, there’s a fantastic selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants in the town centre.

Everything you need close to hand

Telford is perfectly equipped for a modern way of living, and is a hub of activity for those looking for entertainment. The town’s main indoor shopping centre boasts over 160 stores including popular high street brands, meaning you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Close to the shopping centre is Southwater, the town’s vibrant leisure quarter, home to a fantastic selection of bars, eateries, entertainment venues and art spaces – perfect for a fun day with the family, or a lively evening on the town. For all other shopping needs, The Forge Retail Park, in the north of Telford, offers many more major stores including B&Q, Next and Sainsburys. To enjoy local produce, you could also visit one of the local weekly markets, such as those in Dawley and Madeley.

Discover local history

Despite the fact that Telford is still a relatively new town, the area has a rich industrial history that locals are proud of. The town is named after civil engineer Thomas Telford, who engineered many rail and road projects in Shropshire. Just a short drive from Telford you’ll find the picturesque Ironbridge Gorge and the famous feat of engineering it’s named for. Built by Abraham Darby in 1779 and spanning the River Severn, the bridge stands as a bold reminder of a long industrial past, and the gorge is now listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Other historical attractions include Blists Hill Victorian town, a fascinating living museum in a restored 19th-century industrial village around 5 miles from Telford.

Impressive schools in the area

Students of all ages will find an excellent range of schooling options in and around Telford. In addition to a wide range of primary schools, there are some superb secondary schools in the area including the highly-regarded Thomas Telford School. The school, a city technology college, was the first comprehensive in the UK to achieve a GCSE pass rate of 100% A*-C grades, and it’s still considered to be one of the best comprehensives in the UK. Further education is provided by Telford College of Arts and Technology as well as a number of sixth forms, plus the University of Wolverhampton also has a campus in Telford.

You’ll be well connected…

The town is connected to the M54 via junctions 4, 5 and 6, providing speedy links to Shrewsbury to the west and Wolverhampton, Birmingham and the M6 to the east. Regular direct rail services operate from three stations in the town to Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury and Birmingham New Street. There are also excellent bus services throughout the area and Birmingham airport is just over an hour away by car.

Set in the heart of Shropshire yet enjoying the best of urban life, Telford and the surrounding area could be the perfect place for you to create a fantastic home for you and your family.
