Persimmon Homes

Tidworth is on the eastern edge of Wiltshire’s great Salisbury Plain. Arable farming and the army work hand-in-hand in this huge crop-growing, military training, dual-purpose swathe of countryside, and Tidworth is one of the small towns and villages dotted around the edges of the Plain, that look after both, with local shops and services, new homes, and a growing community. It’s not everyone who shares their landscape with Stonehenge, so your new home will be in good company.

Keeping in touch

One of the main routes to the South West is on the doorstep, the A303, which links with the M3 just before Basingstoke, and heads through Wiltshire, Somerset and then on into Devon. The A338 is a key north-south route too, passing through Tidworth and connecting with Salisbury, Fordingbridge in the New Forest, eventually reaching Bournemouth on the south coast. A network of smaller roads link with Andover, Marlborough, Devizes, and Trowbridge. The nearest train stations are at Andover and Grateley on the South Western Railway, with services in to London Waterloo, and Pewsey on the Great Western Railway with services into London Paddington. There’s not much in them as Andover is 9 miles away, Grateley is 7 miles away, and Pewsey is 10 miles away.  Local bus services connect with Salisbury and Andover, as well as some of the other local villages in the area.

Tidworth has a number of local services, including two supermarkets – a Tesco Superstore and Lidl – as well as a couple of convenience stores, two veterinary surgeries, a pharmacy and a large medical centre that was a collaboration between the NHS and the Ministry of Defence. There are three primary schools and an infant school, so your young children will be able to go to school very locally. The same goes for secondary age pupils, as they’ve got the Wellington Academy close by.

Spare time

For local sport and leisure, there’s a golf club, a football club, a cricket club – even a polo club – and Tidworth Park is a lovely green space on the edge of town, with the River Bourne running through it. Salisbury and Andover are where you’d head for high street shopping, entertainment, and a night out, and Marlborough is wonderful for boutique shopping and lunch out with a friend. Amesbury and Stonehenge are where you’ll take your friends when they come to visit, and everyone will enjoy a long walk on Salisbury Plain and lunch in one of the lovely village pubs.
