Persimmon Homes

What a lovely little city. Wells has city status because of its stunning cathedral, it’s big enough to have a lovely high street with plenty of independent shops but small enough for your new home to feel very much a part of the community. It’s only 17 miles from Bath and 20 miles from Bristol so it’s a great location if you need to travel there for work. Wells is just below the Mendip Hills, home to the famous Cheddar Gorge, so there’s some great countryside on your doorstep too.

Living here

This is an easy city to get around as it’s so compact. It doesn’t skimp on amenities though and as well as the pretty high street and open-air market, the main supermarkets are here too. There’s plenty of green space and the summer visitors are a bonus to the cheerful atmosphere.

Getting around

Wells is on the A39 which runs between the M5 near Bridgwater and Bath. The city has an excellent bus service for connections to Bristol Temple Meads if you want to travel further afield by train. Bristol Airport is a real asset, it’s only 20 miles north of Wells.

Going to School

There’s a great choice of primary schools here and as well as the famous Cathedral School, The Blue School is one of the main co-educational secondary schools for the city. Strode College in Street, just the other side of Glastonbury, provides further education courses and has a great reputation.

Enjoying yourself

Wells is big on history and you’ll enjoy having the Cathedral, the huge Cathedral Green and the Bishop’s Palace to show your friends and family. The old Market Place hosts a fantastic food and general market every Wednesday and Saturday- it’s impossible not to buy a treat. Out and about a short drive takes you up into the Mendips, for Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole Caves. The Ebbor Gorge is less well known, but the panoramic views from the top across the Somerset Levels are something else. You can see Glastonbury Tor and all the way to the coast near Western-Super-Mare.
