Weston-super-Mare

Weston-Super-Mare is Somerset’s second largest town. It’s 25 miles south west of Bristol and has one of the longest beaches in the UK, two very good reasons for choosing a new home here. It sits on the coast just below the Mendip Hills and has amazing views across the River Severn to Cardiff in South Wales. Weston-Super-Mare’s location close to the motorway network and the city of Bristol, means that it’s a popular commercial and residential choice. There’s a strong visitor economy here too, as the town has been a much-loved seaside resort since Victorian times.

Living here

There’s always a feel-good factor living by the sea, especially for families, and you’ll certainly have that. At the same time Weston-Super-Mare is well connected for travel into Bristol for work and it’s a very popular base for commuting. The local amenities are boosted by tourism, and so there are plenty of shopping options and seasonal attractions. Weston General Hospital is a great resource for the town and its residents.

Getting around

The town is just off the M5 motorway south of Bristol so it’s in a great location for commuting, for heading into Devon and Cornwall, the Midlands, or for joining the M4 to London. Trains to Bristol Temple Meads take just half an hour, and from there you can join the main rail network. You’ve also got the benefit of Bristol Airport just 15 miles away, with an easy route south of the city.

Going to school

A family-friendly town of this size has a wide choice for children of all ages. Weston College completes the picture, with further and higher education options, and of course there are opportunities in Bristol too.

Enjoying yourself

You may not want to go any further than the seafront, where you can stroll along the promenade, enjoy the beach – it’s a great amenity whatever the time of year – and the Grand Pier, and watch the world go by from one of the cafes. The Hutton Moor Leisure Centre has a 25m pool, a health suite, gym, dance studio, tennis and squash courts, and outdoor sports pitches. If there’s a rainy day, there’s a Cineworld and an Odeon Cinema to keep you entertained, and the huge Cribbs Causeway shopping outlet is on the outskirts of Bristol. For a change of scenery, just head up into the Mendip Hills via Bleadon and you’ll be on top of the world.
