Nearby outdoor attractions include Capstone Country Park, the Blue Flag beach at Minster and the artificial ski slope at Chatham Ski & Snowboard Centre.
Newington C of E Primary School is situated in the village, just half a mile from the Watling Place development. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, the school is said to have “very friendly and happy” pupils who “feel safe”. Located in nearby villages are Hartlip Endowed C of E Primary School, Lower Halstow Primary School and Borden C of E Primary School, with the latter graded ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. For older children, Rainham Mark Grammar School and Borden Grammar School are both nearby.
